Should I use leverage in my portfolio?

Q. Should I use leverage in my investment plan?

A. This is a personal choice. Leverage is a double edge sword and whilst gains will be magnified so too will any losses. For experienced investors only leverage might be appropriate.

If you are intending to use leverage it is important to always make sure that you have a sufficient buffer of cash in your account to satisfy margin requirements in the case of unexpected market volatility.

If you choose to use leverage it would be prudent to use levels of no more than 1.6:1.
